Lightweight Wheelchairs

Lightweight wheelchairs afford enhanced mobility, comfort, and convenience for those who use their wheelchairs more frequently.  A lightweight wheelchair is the preferred choice for the long term user who wishes to enjoy an active lifestyle. They allow for a weight capacity of up to 350 pounds, while keeping the total weight of the chair between 27-35 pounds.  They are generally smaller and more compact than standard manual wheelchairs.   With a frame made of strong, durable aluminum or titanium, lightweight wheelchairs are easier to push, transport and store.   Their lighter construction allows the occupant to propel himself with less effort and provides easier maneuverability. It is also easier for a caregiver to transport or lift the light weight wheelchair into a car. 

Lightweight wheelchairs are available in both rigid and folding varieties.  They can be customized with a wide range of seat widths and depths to provide good postural support and pressure relief for the user’s comfort.  Like a full size wheelchair, light weight wheelchairs are equipped with adjustable foot rests and back rests for maximum comfort.  They can be fitted with full length arm rests for increased support, or desk length arm rests, which are shorter to allow the user to fit at a desk or table.
