Survival rates for victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) are higher with premium equipment. When seconds can mean the difference between life and death, the availability of excellent equipment can be literally lifesaving. Tiger Medical Supplies offers a full line of the highest quality electrodes, pads, and paddles to suit the needs, capabilities, and budget of every layman, emergency responder, and medical professional, including surgeons. See below for a comprehensive description of the different types of electrodes to assist you in choosing the right product.
Defibrillation leaders 3M, Covidien/Kendall, GE, HeartSine, Welch Allyn, and Zoll produce exceptional defibrillation pads and electrodes in every size and to address every purpose. The defibrillation electrodes provide superior defibrillation, while multi-function electrodes defibrillate and monitor patients. Specialized sterilizable internal electrodes are exclusively for operating rooms; training electrodes are specifically engineered for use in mock defibrillators for training purposes.
Electrodes
The pad-style electrodes manufactured by HeartSine, Zoll, Welch Allyn, GE, and Covidien/Kendall are flat, flexible, single-use, individually sealed entities that are popular due to their typically long shelf life, ease of use, and unique features such as illustrations or unique shapes for assistance in correct placement, multiple capabilities, integrated batteries, and pre-connected wires. The electrodes are pre-gelled to eliminate the need for defibrillation gel or pads.
We carry an extensive line of Zoll electrodes, compatible with virtually all Zoll defibrillators, for all applications in the field and hospital. All Zoll electrodes are multi-function, pre-connected, and feature graphics and/or unique shapes for proper placement. Standard multi-function electrodes are recommended for use in older Zoll defibrillator models such as PD-1600, PD-1700, and PD-2200. Newer models use a variety of updated electrodes to meet many demands. The revolutionary one-piece CPR-D•padz® are critical for use with various defibrillators’ Real CPR Help® function; the pediatric equivalent, known as pedi•padz®, are available in solid gel and liquid gel versions and economical cases. pro•padz® are proven to achieve superior results in cardioversion of atrial fibrillation and are recommended for use in hospitals, cath labs, and operating rooms with standard, radiolucent, and sterile options. For EMS use, stat•padz® are ready for use at a moments’ notice with green pressure sponge backing for excellent adhesion during transport and Speed Pack™ system to eliminate wire tangling; stat•padz® II take it a step further with the ability to connect directly to AEDs. OneStep™ electrodes, true to their name, feature a combination of options such as ECG monitoring, defibrillation, pacing, and CPR assistance capabilities in one easy-to-use pad, available for adults and children up to eight years old. If users wish to monitor ECG alone, designated ECG electrodes are compatible with Zoll X Series, E Series, and Propaq monitors.
HeartSine’s Pad-Pak™, in both adult and pediatric sizes, combines the battery and electrode in one cartridge for easy use and maintenance. Covidien/Kendall’s MEDI-TRACE™ Cadence electrodes connect directly to monitors by major manufacturers Physio-Control, Philips, HP, and Zoll without adapters to provide quality tracing, defibrillation, and cardioversion, are available in radiolucent versions, and feature gradient technology for uniform current distribution. The standard MEDI-TRACE™ electrodes are recommended for less clinically sensitive areas and are compatible with Philips, HP, Zoll, and Physio-Control devices as well.
GE presents pre-gelled adult and pediatric defibrillation pads compatible with their Responder defibrillators. Welch Allyn’s pads for use in the AED 10™ and AED 20™ include pre-attached, lead-out defibrillation pads and pre-gelled multi-function electrodes for monitoring, pacing, synchronized conversion, and defibrillation, compatible with PIC monitors as well.
For training purposes, HeartSine offers a Trainer-Pak™, Welch Allyn produces pads for the AED 10™ trainer, and Zoll’s CPR-D•padz® and stat•padz® II are available in training versions as well. All trainer electrodes look and act like their live counterparts to breed familiarity among users but do not deliver an actual shock.
Paddles
Some hospital-grade defibrillators may be used with external and internal paddles. High-use facilities may prefer reusable external apex/sternum paddles for budgetary or comfort purposes. Surgeons require sterilizable internal paddles to restart cardiac function during open-heart surgery; Zoll and Welch Allyn offer internal handles and spoons in various sizes, including as 1”, 2”, and 2.7”.
Pads
When external paddles are used, the patient’s skin must be prepared for shock. Disposable pads, training pads, and replacement training gels by manufacturers HeartSine, and Zoll eliminate the need for messy gel and assist in optimal electrical contact for effective defibrillation.
